Trials, the free plan, and premium

For parentsFor students· 3 min read

Every family starts with 7-day full-access trials (up to 3 children). After that, the free plan keeps two subjects per level; a topped-up wallet unlocks everything automatically.

Keybaki starts every child with full access, then settles into a free plan that keeps core learning going while Premium unlocks the whole curriculum.

The 7-day trial

  • Each child gets a 7-day full-access trial the moment they're added — every subject, the full library, all CEAs.
  • The trial budget is 3 children per family. A fourth (or later) child starts directly on the free plan.
  • Trial days are free: the wallet is never charged for a child inside their trial window.

The free plan (after the trial)

Library lessons and CEAs narrow to two subjects per level:

  • Junior School (Grades 7–9) — English and Social Studies.
  • Senior School (Grades 10–12) — English and ICT.

Everything else about the account keeps working — sign-in, streaks, bookmarks in the free subjects, family management.

Genuinely can't pay (for example, no M-Pesa access)? Contact support — we can credit your token wallet, and Premium switches on like any other top-up.

Premium

Premium runs on the family token wallet: while the wallet holds tokens, every child is on Premium automatically — there is no per-child subscribe step, and nothing to cancel. Each child past their trial draws 1 token per day. Premium unlocks:

  • Every subject — the full library and all CEAs across the curriculum.
  • Full-length mock CEAs — national-assessment format and depth.
  • Advanced reports — strand mastery over the term, weak-strand recommendations everywhere.

Turning Premium on from the parent side

  1. Open Family and tap Top up (a free-plan child's card also shows a Top up for Premium shortcut).
  2. Pick a bundle and tap Send M-Pesa Prompt, then accept the STK push on your phone.
  3. The moment the payment confirms, Premium switches on for all your children — locked subjects open right away, no second step.

When the wallet later runs out, Premium pauses for everyone; topping up again switches it straight back on.

You're told before it happens

Nobody hits the free plan by surprise: the parent gets a “trial ends in 2 days” notification, then a “now on the free plan” note the day it ends (the student gets one too). Tapping either lands on the Family wallet, one tap from topping up. You'll also get a low balance heads-up when the wallet is down to about two days of learning, and an access paused note if it runs dry.

What each side sees on the free plan

  • Locked subjects stay visible — on the library shelf they appear as normal books with a small Premium marker, and in the CEA picker as greyed chips with a premium icon. Content inside them stays locked server-side.
  • Student view — opening a premium book or tapping a premium quiz chip explains that the free plan covers only the free subjects, and offers Ask for a top-up — one tap sends you a notification (at most once every 6 hours per child) with a Top up shortcut.
  • Parent view (scoped to that child) — the same tap explains the free plan and offers Top up directly; once the payment confirms, every subject opens for all your children.

Common issues

  • Topped up but subjects still missing. Locked subjects should open the moment the payment confirms — hard refresh if a page was already open. If it persists, check the wallet balance actually updated (M-Pesa callbacks can lag a minute).
  • My child only sees one free subject. The other free subject may not have published content or CEA questions for their grade yet; it appears as soon as content lands.
  • We used our 3 trials. Later children start on the free plan — topping up the wallet any time unlocks everything for them too.
  • Can I pay for just one child? No — the wallet funds the whole family. While it holds tokens, every child past their trial is on Premium and draws 1 token per day.
