Inviting a parent (single)
For teachers· 1 min read
Send a personal SMS invite to one parent at a time — up to 20 a day. Best for parents you know individually.
A single-parent invite is the most personal way to onboard a family. The parent receives an SMS with a short message that names you, the student, and the school — so they know what the invite is about before they tap.
Steps
- My classroom → Invite parent.
- The invite goes out by SMS (the one teacher-invite channel today).
- Enter the parent's phone number.
- Enter the student's name + grade.
- Send invite.
What the parent sees
A message like:
Ms. Wanjiru (a teacher at Aga Khan Academy Nairobi) has invited you to manage Maya (Grade 7) on Keybaki. Tap to accept:
https://app.keybaki.com/invite/abc123. Link expires in 30 days.
Tracking
The invite appears in the Pending invites rail with status:
- Pending / Sent — created, then the SMS dispatched (Failed if it couldn't send).
- Redeemed — the parent signed up through the link and the child was created.
- Revoked — you cancelled it.
- Expired — 30 days passed without redemption.
If it never arrives
There's no resend — Revoke the pending invite from the rail and send a fresh one. You can send up to 20 invites per day.
Common issues
- The SMS never arrived. Double-check the number, revoke, and send a fresh invite.
- Phone number rejected. Must be E.164 (
+254xxxxxxxxx). The picker auto-formats Kenya numbers; for other countries, type the full number with country code.
