Messages and conversations
How in-app messaging works — starting a chat, what the delivery ticks mean, and how messages sync when you're offline.
The Messages screen (/chat) is where one-to-one and group conversations live inside Keybaki. Open it from the chat icon in the top bar (top-right, with an unread count when you have new messages). On a phone you see your conversation list, then tap into a thread; on a laptop the list and the open thread sit side by side.
Starting a conversation
Tap New message in the conversation list, pick the person, and start typing. Beyond direct messages, you may also see group threads and office threads (messages from a school's front office) depending on your role and school.
Sending a message
Type and hit send. Your message appears immediately with a soft send sound — it doesn't wait for the network round-trip. The little ticks next to it tell you where it is:
- One grey tick — sent from your device, on its way.
- Two grey ticks — delivered and saved on the server.
- Two blue ticks — the other person has read up to this message.
Realtime + offline
New messages arrive live — you don't have to refresh. If your connection drops, the thread catches up automatically when you reconnect, and anything you sent while briefly offline syncs through once the network is back. You'll never see the same message twice, and your own pending messages reconcile cleanly once they land.
Need the Keybaki team?
Keybaki Support lives right in this list — the row with the Official badge, alongside your school conversations. Tap it: if you're starting fresh, a quick 3-step helper asks what you need before the thread reaches a human, and your conversation gets a ticket number like KB-7A3F91C2 for easy follow-up. Replies arrive here like any other message — and as a push notification if you have those on. More ways to reach us: Contact & support.
Common issues
- My message shows one grey tick for a while. You're briefly offline or the network is slow. It'll advance to two ticks once it reaches the server — nothing is lost.
- I can't find a conversation. Use the list's search, or start a new message — a fresh thread with the same person reuses the existing one.
- Read receipts aren't turning blue. The other person simply hasn't opened the thread past that message yet.
