Merging duplicate accounts

For admins· 1 min read

Merge system-detected duplicate pairs. The merge is immediate and destructive — the merged account is deleted in the same transaction.

Admin → Merges lists system-detected candidate pairs (same phone shape, overlapping identity signals). You don't search for arbitrary accounts — you review the detected pairs and pick which side survives.

Running a merge

  1. Open a candidate pair.
  2. Choose which account is the primary (the survivor).
  3. Confirm. The merge runs in one transaction: the other account's data folds into the primary, and the merged account row is deleted immediately.

There is no undo, no field-by-field override, and no reason input — treat every merge as destructive and check the pair carefully first.

Guardrails

  • Admin accounts can't be merged.
  • You can't merge yourself.

Common issues

  • Merged the wrong direction. There's no reversal; the deleted account's row is gone. If real data was lost, escalate to engineering with both user ids immediately.
  • The duplicate isn't in the candidate list. The detector didn't pair them; file the two ids with engineering rather than working around it.
