Family overview

For parents· 2 min read

How the parent surface is organised — multiple children, one active learner at a time, shared token wallet.

The Family surface is your home base as a parent. From here you add children, set their PINs, top up the wallet, and switch the active learner — the child whose progress the rest of the app scopes to.

The model

  • One parent account per phone number.
  • Multiple children under that account.
  • One active learner at a time. The active learner pill at the top of every screen shows whose data is currently in scope.
  • One shared token wallet for the whole family — while it holds tokens, Premium is on for every child (1 token per child per day).

What you see on Family

  1. Token wallet card at the top — balance (with its KES equivalent), how many children it's currently funding, days of premium remaining, and the Top Up button.
  2. Per-child cards — for each child: name, grade, plan badge, recent activity, CEA count, plus the PIN and Controls chips.
  3. Add Child button in the top bar — opens the create-form.

Switching active learner

Switch the active learner from the learner pill in the top bar — not from the Family child cards. The switch is instant; every other screen (home, library, CEAs) re-scopes to that child immediately.

Sign-in flow for children

Children sign in using your phone number, then pick their name from the list, then enter their 4-digit PIN. Each child's PIN is independent — siblings can't sign in as each other.

Common issues

  • My child's screen looks the same as mine. You're seeing the parent view scoped to that child. Children have their own sign-in (your phone → child picker → PIN) and a student-only chrome.
  • The wallet is empty. Premium pauses for everyone when the wallet hits 0. Top up and it switches back on immediately; in-progress CEAs keep working during the pause.
