Recommending library items to students
For teachers· 1 min read
Send a library item directly to one or more students in your roster. Lands in their home + notification feed.
When you find a library item you want a specific student (or class) to engage with, use Recommend instead of just sharing the URL. Recommendations route through the notification pipeline and land in the student's home + notification feed.
Steps
- Open the library item in the item viewer.
- Tap Recommend in the action footer.
- Pick one of your class streams — only streams matching the item's grade and a subject you teach are listed.
- Add an optional note ("Try this before next class — it covers fractions").
- Tap Recommend — you'll see how many students it reached.
To recommend to a single student, start from the other side: Students → open the student → Recommend and pick the item there.
What the student sees
- An in-app notification: "Ms. Wanjiru recommended [item title]."
- A row in their home → Recommended for you card.
- A push notification if they've opted in.
What you see
- A confirmation banner tells you how many students the recommendation reached.
- On the learner's side, the item appears in their Recommended by Your Teacher rail; its status updates as they open or dismiss it.
Common issues
- Recipient picker is empty, or someone's missing from it. The picker only lists learners you're paired with — same school, same level, and a subject you both share — and it further filters by the item's subject, so a Maths item only offers learners who take Maths. See How you get matched to students. Learners who aren't confirmed yet never appear.
- Student says they didn't receive it. Check their notification preferences — if they've disabled the libraryRecommendation kind, the in-app row still shows but push / email are skipped.
