Notifications for parents

For parents· 4 min read

What Keybaki tells parents about — your child's learning, your wallet, safety — and how you're reached (in-app always, plus push and WhatsApp).

Keybaki keeps you posted on your children's learning and your account. Everything lands in your in-app bell as the baseline; you can add push and WhatsApp on top. Manage it all from Settings → Notifications (or the gear on the bell) — see Notification preferences for the controls.

What you'll be notified about

Your child's learning

  • Weekly review — a digest of the week's activity per child. (Coming soon — the preference exists, delivery hasn't started yet.) (Per-CEA score pings were retired to keep notifications for events that matter — scores live in the weekly review and on your Family screen.)
  • Trial ending soon / Trial ended — a heads-up 1–2 days before a child's 7-day trial expires, and a note the day it ends saying what stays free. Tapping either opens your Family wallet, one tap from topping up — a funded wallet keeps Premium on for every child. Your child gets the day-of note too.
  • Library updates — new content landing in your children's subjects. Teacher recommendations reach the learner in their in-app rail rather than as a parent notification.

Your wallet

  • Top-up confirmed — your M-Pesa payment went through and tokens were added.
  • Top-up failed — a payment didn't complete, so you can retry.
  • Low balance — your wallet is down to about 2 days of learning at your family's pace (1 token per child per day, trial children excluded); a heads-up (once a day) to top up before access pauses. Tapping it opens your Family wallet.
  • Access paused — you ran out of tokens and a child's premium access paused; top up to restore it.
  • Wallet adjusted — a Keybaki admin credited or debited your tokens.
  • Top-up request — your child tapped Ask for a top-up on their profile (at most one ask per child every 6 hours). Tapping it opens your Family wallet.
  • Premium unlocked — your funding switched a child's premium access (back) on: the full library, quizzes, and activities are open again. Your child gets a note too.

Account & safety

  • Child safety — a safety concern involving your child. Always delivered (see below).
  • Grade changed — an admin changed your child's grade outside the yearly rollover (e.g. a fast-learner promotion).
  • School transfer — a change to your child's school link.
  • Messages — direct, group, and office chat messages, plus replies from Keybaki Support.
  • Ticket resolved — the Keybaki team closed your support ticket (you can still read the conversation).

How you're reached

As a parent you have three channels:

  • In-app bell — always on; this is the baseline and can't be switched off.
  • Push — alerts on your device, even with Keybaki closed. One tap on the "Turn on notifications" prompt (in the bell, in Messages, or after installing the app) plus Allow on the system prompt. On Android and laptops it works straight from the browser; on iPhone/iPad it requires installing Keybaki as an app first.
  • WhatsApp — opt-in; turn it on in Settings if you want reminders there.

Keybaki does not send parents email or SMS notifications — those channels aren't part of your account type. (A per-device Sound chime is separate — it plays a short tone for incoming messages and notices, on by default, silenceable per device.)

What you can't turn off

Child-safety alerts always reach you, regardless of your toggles — silencing them is a risk we don't allow. Everything else is yours to mute under Notify me about.

Common issues

  • I'm not getting push alerts. Check Settings → Notifications → Browser push is enabled and your browser's permission is granted (on iPhone/iPad, Keybaki must be installed as an app). Until then, notices still appear in the in-app bell.
  • I expected an SMS/email and didn't get one. Parent notifications go to the in-app bell, push, and (if you opted in) WhatsApp — not SMS or email. Check the bell.
  • Too many of one kind. Turn that type off under "Notify me about" in Settings — it mutes on every channel, the bell included (child-safety excepted).
  • A low-balance or paused-access notice. Tap it to jump to your Family wallet and top up. Low-balance fires at most once a day while you're low; access-paused fires when tokens hit zero.
