Choosing your learning pathway

For students· 2 min read

Senior-school students pick a pathway (STEM / Social Sciences / Arts & Sports Science) + selective subjects, which focus your library and CEAs.

In Senior School (Grade 10–12), CBC learners specialise. Keybaki asks you to pick a pathway and a few selective subjects so your library and CEAs show what you actually study — not the whole catalogue.

Where to choose it

Open your Profile. Senior-School learners see a Your Learning Pathway section on the Your Grade card — pick one of the three pathways there, then your selectives. (Your grade itself is set by your parent; the pathway is yours to choose.)

The three pathways

  • STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics.
  • Social Sciences — humanities, languages, business & religious studies.
  • Arts & Sports Science — creative arts, performing arts & sports science.

Core + selectives

  • Everyone takes the same 4 core subjects, whatever pathway: English, Kiswahili, Community Service Learning, and PE & Sports.
  • On top of core, you pick 3 selective subjects from your pathway's menu (STEM offers Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science…; Social Sciences offers Geography, Business Studies, CRE…; and so on).

Your library and CEAs then focus on your 4 core + your 3 selectives — the subjects you're actually sitting.

Subjects without content yet

A few selectives don't have library content yet. They show blurred with a "no content yet" tag in the picker — tapping one explains why it can't be saved. They unlock automatically the moment content is published. (If you picked one before this rule existed, your pick stays.)

You get 3 changes

Your first picks are free, and adding selectives up to the cap of 3 is always free. Removing or swapping a selective you already saved counts as a change, and you get 3 changes in total — after that, changes go through support. So take a moment before you save: pick the subjects you actually study.

Changing your pathway

You can switch pathways from the same screen. Picking a new pathway clears your previous selectives — and that clearing uses one of your 3 changes — so settle on a pathway before fine-tuning your picks.

Common issues

  • I don't see a pathway picker. Pathways are for Grade 10–12. Junior-school grades study the full common curriculum, so there's nothing to pick yet.
  • My selectives disappeared. You changed pathway — that resets the selective picks. Choose 3 again for the new pathway.
  • A selective is blurred and won't save. It has no library content yet. Pick another for now — it unlocks when content lands.
  • "You've used your 3 selective-subject changes." Your change budget is spent. Ask your parent to contact support (hello@keybaki.com) — we can reset it.
  • I haven't picked one. Until you do, the library keeps the unambiguous common and offered-to-all subjects available. Your Mathematics course and pathway electives stay locked, with a prompt to choose your pathway. CEA attempts remain unavailable outside a completed subject scope.
