What a CEA is

A Competency Evaluation Assessment is a short formative quiz tied to a CBE strand. Mastery, not score, is the point.
A CEA — Competency Evaluation Assessment — is Keybaki's lightweight formative quiz. Every CEA is anchored to a single KICD strand (e.g. Mathematics → Algebra → Linear equations), or to a whole subject when you leave the strand open, and pulls the number of questions you choose — 3, 5 or 10 — from a curated pool.
What makes it different from a regular quiz
- Anchored to the curriculum. Results tell you about that strand (or subject) — not a generic "good day / bad day".
- Competency-tagged questions. Each question carries 0–2 competency tags (Critical thinking, Communication, Self-efficacy, Citizenship…). Results show competency mastery, not just raw score.
- Weak-strand recommendations. Wrong answers cluster around specific sub-strands. The results screen surfaces those gaps with direct library jumps.
- Minutes, not an hour. About 90 seconds per question — a 5-question CEA gives you 7½ minutes — designed for a quick break: over breakfast, between class periods, during a parent's tea break.
Who takes them
- Students take CEAs for themselves. Results are personal.
- Parents can take a CEA on behalf of a child to see what their child sees — useful for previewing a strand before recommending it.
- Teachers review aggregate CEA results for their classes in My classroom but don't usually take CEAs themselves.
The pool
The picker shuffles and selects from the strand's pool so retakes draw a fresh set — there's no benefit to memorising specific items. A sub-strand needs at least 3 questions in its pool before a CEA can start.
Common issues
- "No CEAs available for this strand." The question pool isn't filled out yet. KICD content rolls in over time; flag the gap via
hello@keybaki.com. - What happens when time runs out? The attempt submits itself with whatever you've answered — the clock is a real limit, so pace yourself rather than perfecting each answer.
