Getting your child confirmed at school

For parents· 2 min read

When you pick your child's school, they start pending until the school confirms them. What that means, and how it gets resolved.

When you pick a school for your child, they're linked to it right away — but as pending. Keybaki keeps your child out of the school's teacher view, and keeps you out of school messaging, until someone at the school confirms your child actually attends there. It's how we keep strangers from attaching a child to a school and reaching its staff and families.

What you'll see

On your Family screen, a child who's waiting shows a small amber note under their name:

Pending school verification

That's the only visible change — your child keeps full access to the library, CEAs, and their own progress. The pending state only affects how they connect to the school.

What it means while pending

  • Teachers at the school can't see your child in their roster yet, so they can't recommend content or add them to a class.
  • You can't message school staff yet, and they can't message you — you're not a recognized member of the school until your child is confirmed.

None of this touches your child's learning — quizzes, streaks, bookmarks, and weak-strand insights all work normally.

How it gets resolved

A verified school contact (principal, deputy, ICT lead) or a Keybaki admin confirms your child from the school's side. The moment they do:

  • Your child appears in their teachers' rosters.
  • You're automatically recognized as a parent at that school — you can message staff and they can reach you. There's nothing extra for you to confirm.

You'll get a notification when your child is confirmed (or if the school can't confirm them and asks you to re-pick the school).

When there's no wait

If a teacher invited you and you signed up through that invite, your child is confirmed straight away — the teacher already vouched for them, so they skip the pending step. The wait only applies when you pick the school yourself.

Common issues

  • I picked the wrong school. Edit the child from the Family screen and pick the right school, or ask the school to decline the pending child — that detaches them so you can choose again.
  • My child has been at this school for a while. Children already attached before this feature were confirmed automatically — only newly picked schools start pending.
  • The school says they can't find my child. Double-check the school you picked matches where they actually attend; an honest mismatch is the usual cause of a decline.
