KICD / CBC mapping
How Keybaki anchors every plan, library item, and CEA question to the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development's CBC framework.
Keybaki is built around the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) competency-based curriculum. Every plan, library item, and CEA question carries a stable identifier so the platform never drifts out of sync with the official syllabus.
The hierarchy
The CBE ladder runs from Subject → Grade → Strand → Sub-strand → Learning Outcome. Each level has a KICD identifier called a CFItem (Competency Framework Item) drawn from KICD's public competency framework registry.
- JSS — Grades 7, 8, 9 (Junior Secondary School).
- SSS — Grades 10, 11, 12 (Senior Secondary School).
Teachers are scoped to either JSS or SSS based on their teacher level (set in Profile). Students are scoped to their exact grade. Parents see content for whichever child is the active learner.
How it shows up
- Plans — every plan binds to a (subject, grade, strand, sub-strand) tuple. The plan stores the CFItem code so KICD reference numbers stay stable even if labels evolve.
- Library — every lesson, video, activity, and assessment is tagged with the same CFItem so the recommender can surface "next-best content for this gap".
- CEAs — every question has a CFItem and 0–2 competency tags (Critical thinking, Communication, etc). Results show competency mastery, not just raw score.
Why this matters
When KICD updates the syllabus, Keybaki tracks the CFItem deltas — old items are marked superseded but not deleted, so a plan from last term still resolves. New items appear in the library + CEA pickers automatically.
For the official CBE curriculum, see the KICD website.
