Creating a lesson plan

The plan wizard turns a free-form idea into a structured CBE-aligned lesson plan in five steps. Each step has sensible defaults; you only need to fill what matters.

Steps

1. Lesson Details — Title, grade, and subject. Subject cards show the live resource count for the picked grade, and grades with no published curriculum yet are marked Soon.
2. Learning Goals — Pick a strand, then a sub-strand (both come from the live CBC Library and carry their KICD codes), and enter specific learning outcomes and key inquiry questions — one per line.
3. Materials — Attach the sub-strand's library lessons and activities, plus your own materials. On a lesson or activity, Import as lesson steps turns its sections into editable steps — the content lands on your slides, and the item's learning objectives are lifted into your outcomes. A plan carries one imported spine at a time; importing from another item replaces it (hand-added steps are kept).
4. Teaching Activities — The heart of the plan: each step is one presenter slide. Edit titles, minutes, 5E phase tags, and the teaching content that projects on the slide; reorder with the arrows; Distribute N min evenly splits the lesson duration across all steps in one tap. The schedule (timetable block + lesson date) collapses into a one-line bar at the top once picked — tap Change to adjust. Assessment sits below the steps.
5. Review — Optionally tag the CBC competencies, values, and PCIs you'll explicitly address, add teacher's notes, and review the plan summary.

The wizard autosaves as you go — a draft exists from the moment Setup is complete, so you can leave at any step and pick up later. Save and Review Lesson on the last step takes you to the plan; Mark Ready on the plan lifts it to Ready.

Common issues

• My subject isn't in the picker. Subjects are scoped by your teacher level. If you've been promoted from JSS to SSS or vice versa, update your level in Settings → Profile.
• "This item has no sections to import yet." The library item's body has no importable structure — attach it as a resource instead, and write your own steps (or seed the 5E template).
• Step minutes don't add up. The total row tracks against the lesson duration and shows over/under; Distribute N min evenly resets to an even split you can nudge.
• Resources won't attach. File size cap is 25 MB per upload. Larger files need to live in your My uploads area as a link.

Save and Close

Use Save and Close at any step to keep your draft. Add a title, subject, and grade first. If saving fails, your edits stay on the page with Try Again. Saved on This Device — Waiting to Sync means your changes are stored locally, but have not yet reached the server.

Discard Draft is a separate, confirmed action that permanently deletes the draft.

Review Your Lesson

The review checklist checks lesson details, curriculum alignment, learning outcomes, teaching activities, and assessment. Missing items link to the right section. Scheduling, activity timing, teaching instructions, and curriculum-framework tags have optional guidance. You can prepare and save an unscheduled draft before setting up your timetable.

Materials, extra support, extra challenge, and after-lesson reflection are saved with the plan. When replacing an imported lesson structure, confirm that the previous imported activities and their edits will be replaced; activities you added yourself stay in place.
