Children's data on Keybaki

For parentsFor public· 2 min read

What Keybaki collects about your child, what we never collect, and how to export or delete their data.

Children's data is held to a higher bar than adult-account data. Under Kenya's DPA 2019, children under 18 require parental consent for processing — which you give the moment you add a child to your Family screen.

What we collect on children

  • Display name (you set this; nicknames are fine).
  • Grade (Grade 7 through Grade 12).
  • PIN hash (cryptographic hash; we cannot see the actual digits).
  • CEA attempts — questions answered, correctness, duration, weak-strand derivations.
  • Bookmarks — library items the child saved.
  • Avatar colour — a visual marker for the picker.

What we never collect

  • Full legal name — we use display name only.
  • Date of birth — grade is enough.
  • Address or location — we don't track where the device is.
  • Phone or email — children sign in via your phone + their PIN. They don't have their own contact info.
  • Photos or biometrics.
  • Content from outside Keybaki — we never read other apps, browsing history, or files.

Sharing

  • With teachers — a teacher who invites a parent (and the parent accepts) sees the child's display name, grade, CEA scores, and weak strands for educational planning. They don't see PINs.
  • With admins — admins see the same fields a teacher sees, plus the audit log (for moderation).
  • With anyone else — never. We don't sell, rent, or trade children's data.

Exporting

Profile → Privacy & data → Download my data exports every child you've added under your account, in JSON.

Deleting

  • Remove a single child — Family → child row → Edit child → Remove. Data is purged within 30 days. See Removing a child.
  • Delete entire parent account — purges all children's data within 30 days.

Common issues

  • My child wants their own account. Children under 18 can't have a standalone account on Keybaki today. The model is: your account, child profile under it. Children get full standalone accounts at 18 (or earlier with explicit guardian sign-off).
  • I want to share my child's data with a tutor. Export via Profile → Privacy & data → Download my data. Send the relevant JSON file via your own channel.
