The level and subjects you teach

For teachers· 3 min read

Set your teaching level (JSS/SSS) and 2–4 subjects on your Profile — they scope the library, lesson plans, timetable, and the students you see.

Keybaki tailors what you see to what you actually teach. On your Profile, the Level You Teach card is where you set two things: your level and your subjects. Together they scope the library, the plan wizard, your timetable, and the students you're paired with — so you're not wading through the whole curriculum.

Step 1 — pick your level

Choose JSS (Junior Secondary, Grades 7–9) or SSS (Senior Secondary, Grades 10–12). This sets the grade band everything else works within.

Changing your level later re-scopes everything, so we ask you to confirm first. Switching:

  • Re-scopes your library, CEAs, timetable, and the students you see to the new grade band.
  • Subjects that don't exist at the new level are dropped, and Keybaki cleans up after them: their timetable blocks are removed and unfinished plans archived. Delivered plans stay in your history.

A first-time pick (no level set yet) applies straight through — the confirmation only guards a change.

Step 2 — pick your subjects

Once a level is set, choose 2–4 subjects you teach from that level's canonical curriculum list. Your picks then scope:

  • Library — items in your subjects surface first.
  • Lesson plans — the plan wizard scopes to your subjects.
  • Timetable — your subjects lead when you build blocks.
  • Student pairing — the subjects feed into which students you're matched with.

Tap subjects to build a draft, then save once you have 2–4. The fourth pick is the cap.

Subjects without content yet

Subjects with no published library content show blurred with a "no content yet" tag. Tapping one explains why it can't be saved — it unlocks automatically once content is published. (If you were already teaching such a subject before this rule, your pick stays.)

Dropping a subject cleans up after it

Removing a subject removes it from your library and CEA scope — and cleans up what depended on it: its timetable blocks are deleted and its unfinished (draft or ready) plans are archived. Delivered plans stay in your history. Before anything happens, a confirmation shows the exact counts, so nothing disappears silently.

If you don't pick

Until you save a valid 2–4 subject scope, protected Library and CEA subject content remains unavailable. This fail-closed behavior prevents an incomplete profile from granting the whole level.

Common issues

  • A subject I teach isn't in the list. It isn't offered at your current level. Check you're on the right level (JSS vs SSS); switching levels changes the subject menu.
  • I picked the wrong subjects. Change the draft, keep 2–4 selected, then save. Dropping one shows a confirmation with what gets cleaned up.
  • A subject is blurred with "no content yet". The library has no published content for it, so it can't be saved as a teaching subject yet. It unlocks the moment content lands.
  • I changed level and my subjects vanished. Expected — subjects that don't exist at the new level are dropped. Re-pick from the new level's list.
