Signing in by phone or PIN
Three sign-in paths — phone OTP for teachers and parents, PIN for students, email magic link for adult users on desktop.
There are three ways to sign in to Keybaki. Which one you use depends on your role.
Teachers and parents — phone one-time code
- Open the sign-in screen and pick I'm a teacher or I'm a parent.
- Enter your phone number. Keybaki defaults to Kenya (+254); change the country code if you're elsewhere.
- Pick a delivery channel — WhatsApp (preferred — free, instant) or SMS (fallback).
- Enter the 6-digit code that arrives. It expires after 5 minutes.
- The first time you sign in, you'll be asked for your display name + grade or teacher level.
- On a shared or public computer, tick "I'm on a shared device" — Keybaki then signs you out after 20 idle minutes and ends the session after a school day, so the next person can't use your account. Leave it off on your own phone.
Students — parent-set PIN
- Tap Student.
- Enter your parent's phone number.
- Type your first name (the one your parent saved, or the one you chose when you signed up) and enter the 4-digit PIN.
- You're in. Keybaki never lists the learners on an account; the name and PIN are checked together, so ask your parent if either has slipped your mind.
Creating your own student account
If your parent has not added you yet, pick Student on the sign-up screen. You'll enter your name and grade, then your school (search the Kenyan registry, or tap My school isn't listed or is outside Kenya and type its name), then your parent's phone number. A code goes to their phone; once you enter it you pick your PIN. Your school is what lets your teachers see your progress once they confirm you.
If your parent already added you, the code step tells you so and offers Sign in as your name instead: it opens the sign-in screen with your parent's number and your first name filled in, and you enter the PIN your parent set. Tap That's not me if it is a different learner with your name.
Adults on desktop — email magic link
If you have your email on file, you can use Sign in with email instead of phone. We send a one-click link to your inbox; use it promptly — links expire.
Common issues
- WhatsApp message didn't arrive. Try SMS instead from the channel picker. The OTP is identical regardless of channel.
- "This number is already registered." You already have an account — switch to Sign in mode at the bottom of the screen.
- PIN doesn't work. PINs are exactly 4 digits. Ask your parent to reset it from their Family screen.
- "More than one learner on this account shares this first name." Your parent needs to give one of you a middle name or nickname in Family before you can sign in.
- "Another learner on this family account already signs in with this first name." (during sign-up) Use a different first name, or ask your parent to check Family: they may already have added you under a longer name.
- Too many tries. After a few wrong PINs the sign-in pauses for a while; the screen counts down and lets you try again when it ends.
